Following the success of the tours to Italy, Brazil, and France created on behalf of WBGO Jazz Radio and its own 2015 Havana Jazz Festival, Shop Wine and Dine is extremely proud to continue on this tradition of exceptional jazz-focused travel experiences by inviting you to participate in the exciting multi-sensory 2018 Havana Jazz Festival!
Cuba has been on many people's bucket list and now, along with like-minded fellow travelers, it can become a reality for you by joining this extraordinary cultural and musical experience.
During this much sought after seven-day People to People tour to Cuba, designed exclusively for your group, you will learn about a deeply-rooted culture, be greeted warmly by the Cuban people eager to interact with US visitors, have access to the best and most innovative music venues, meet musicians and composers, visit artists' studios, dine at the best home restaurants (Paladares) in Havana as well as other activities consistent with the People to People license.
Escorted by a local Cuba expert, you will explore all the "must see" landmarks including the UNESCO World Heritage sites of Old Havana with its "Four Plazas" and along the Malecon which afford one of the most beautiful views in Cuba.
Not to be missed are the Vedado and Havana Moderna districts, Capitolio Central Park and Prado, each boasting distinctive and iconic architecturally significant buildings which collectively reflect Havana's rich history.
To further enrich your appreciation of this spectacular island-nation, we will visit studios of some the emerging and very talented artists representing the vibrant local art scene.
Yet another visit will take us to Ernest Hemingway's Finca La Vigia, and the fishing village of Cojimar, both significant representation of the author's love for and life in Cuba.
The influence of the African culture is still very much at the center of the Afro-Cuban population as will be evidenced during a visit to the Callejon de Mamel, an alley that thanks to local artist Salvador Gonzales, has become a virtual open air Afro-Cuban sanctuary whose walls are adorned with evocative Santeria murals that pay homage to their African origins. The Callejon de Hamel has become a haven for local artists as well as the place where every Sunday afternoon one can experience and revel in the infectious sounds of the famous Afro-Cuban rumbas!
Yet another day will take us to Matanzas, a city on the northern shore of Cuba, known for its poets, culture, and Afro-Cuban folklore. On this spectacular day, we will also visit the amazing Bellamar Caves as well as Callejon de las Tradiciones, an urban block of artists part of the AfroAtenas Community Project, whose mission is to remember, preserve and enforce the roots and traditions inherited by the Cuban people from the African culture introduced to Cuba by the Slaves. But Matanzas is also known as the cradle of the Danzón the official dance of Cuba, whose moves we’ll learn during a demonstration and lesson at the Casa Amigos del Danzón
But, of course, music will be the centerpiece of this very special trip and the main focus will be the jazz festival which has expanded over the years to include several of the main concert halls in downtown Havana as well as of course impromptu jam sessions along the Malecon all of which you will access to as part of this multi-sensory experience!
Without a doubt the 2018 Havana Jazz Festival edition will feature a very impressive lineup which in the past has included Chucho Valdes and Arturo O'Farrill.
Indeed music will be pouring out of every street, courtyard and apartment window with competing rhythms that somehow collectively create beautiful music, so join this amazing trip created exclusively for your group and revel in the sensuous, swinging, sizzling sounds of Afro-Cuban beats than only Cuba can inspire!
